Drug Task Force makes more Essex County arrests

SARANAC LAKE — Five more Essex County residents are facing charges as part of a massive crackdown on illegal drug sales in the area.

In the last three weeks, authorities have been fanning out across the area, arresting more than a dozen residents recently indicted on charges in connection with the illicit sale of drugs, ranging from heroin to prescription medications.

After having already arrested nine people, members of the Essex County Drug Task Force picked up another five this week.

The latest charged by the Essex County Drug Task Force for selling narcotics in Essex County are:

Nathaniel J. Thatcher, 26, of Ticonderoga, with two counts of both third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance; Brett A. Kilroy, 37, of Saranac Lake, on three counts of both third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance; Timothy D. Sullivan, 66, of Saranac Lake, on two counts of fourth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and two counts of fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance; John O. Charette, 59, of Lake Placid, on two counts each of third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance; and Jessica M. Bordeau, 28, of Saranac Lake, on two counts of fourth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and two counts of fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

After his arrest Monday, Thatcher was sent to Essex County Jail on $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bond, which he had not posted as of Wednesday morning.

Thatcher, who was picked up and later convicted in a 2008 drug raid, had been arrested earlier this year for, with another man, allegedly setting fire to a generator and lawn mower in Ticonderoga.

He was arrested shortly after the arson after he led police on a foot chase to the base of Mount Defiance.

Thatcher was still behind bars for the alleged arson when he was arrested on the drug charges.

Kilroy and Sullivan, who were arrested Tuesday, were later released on their own recognizance.

Charette and Bordeau were still in custody early Wednesday pending arraignment in Essex County Court.

The Essex County Drug Task Force consists of the Essex County District Attorney's Office, State Police, the Essex County Sheriff's Department, Ticonderoga Town Police and Lake Placid Village Police.
