Flash-flood watch continued for Essex County

PLATTSBURGH — With thunderstorms delivering heavy rain through this evening, the National Weather Service in Burlington issued a flood watch for areas of Essex County on Monday afternoon.

"A couple of inches of rain is possible in a short time," the Weather Service warned on its website.

Expect heavy downpours, meteorologists said.

Clinton and Franklin counties had been listed earlier in the day but were removed by late afternoon.

"Heavy rain received in the past week has soils still saturated ... and rivers and streams are running normal to above normal in spots," the advisory said.

All that water, combined with more rain, made flooding more possible.

The Weather Services advised people to monitor forecasts and be ready to get to safety should flash flooding occur.
