Appointment announced

PLATTSBURGH — Northern Insuring/Northern Benefits recently welcomed Aubrey Rougier as a sales executive in the Personal Insurance Division.

Rougier will be obtaining her Property and Casualty license this year and has more than one year of insurance experience.

In her new role at Northern, she will be focusing on providing personal insurance products including home, auto and umbrella coverage.

“Aubrey is enthusiastic and committed to excellence,” said Tracy Berry, human resources manager. “She successfully builds professional relationships, and we are excited to have her on our team.”

Northern Insuring/Northern Benefits celebrates 83 years in business in 2013 and has been selected by The Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America (IIABA) and Reagan Consulting as a Best Practices Agency for the last three years.

New managers

PLATTSBURGH — Glens Falls National Bank and Trust Co. has appointed Mary A. Goddeau to manager of the Cornelia Street Office and Hannah C. Provost to manager of the U.S. Avenue Office, both in Plattsburgh.

Goddeau, who joined the bank in 2006, will oversee operations at Cornelia Street, the busiest of Glens Falls National Bank’s three Plattsburgh locations. She previously served as manager of the U.S. Avenue office and has more than 30 years of banking experience in the North Country.

A Plattsburgh native, Goddeau graduated from Saranac Central High School and attended Clinton Community College. She serves on the Clinton Community College Foundation’s Clearly Clinton Campaign, is the Clinton County chairperson for the North Country Regional Workforce Investment Board, volunteers with the American Heart Association and is a supporter of The Strand restoration project.

In her new role, Provost will oversee operations at the U.S. Avenue branch. She joined the bank in 2012 as a customer service associate and has more than five years of banking experience in the Northeast.

Originally from Watertown, Conn., Provost obtained an associate’s degree in Business Administration from the Community College of Vermont in Burlington. She serves on the Adirondack Young Professionals Board of Directors, is an ambassador for the North Country Chamber of Commerce and is a foster parent through the Clinton County Department of Social Services.

Airline honored

PLATTSBURGH — Allegiant has been named the Overall Top-Performing Airline and the top-performer in the Small Carrier category by Aviation Week. This annual award recognizes the company’s financial strength and ability to successfully grow its unique “hometown airline” business model.

In addition to its high financial health score, Allegiant was selected because of its ability to increase its net profit and for capitalizing on ancillary revenue. The annual Top-Performing Airline (TPA) study is based primarily on financial results from the last full calendar year and measures all public carriers world-wide. Carriers are scored in six categories and ranked by total score. Allegiant was given a 74.8 score overall with a score of 75 in the Small Carrier category, more than five points over the second-ranked carrier in both categories. Allegiant holds the best five-year average score of 75.

“We’re pleased to be recognized as the Top-Performing Airline,” Andrew C. Levy, Allegiant president, said. “It is a testament to our relentless dedication to being both low-cost and profitable, as well as the innovation and hard work of our great team members. We look forward to continued growth and healthy financial performance.”

Allegiant was also named the top-performing airline in North America as well as having the top five-year average score. The company was first recognized by Aviation Week as the top-performing low-cost airline in 2010. This is the first year the company has been named Overall Top-Performing Airline worldwide.

Open house

WILLSBORO — Smith House Health Center in Willsboro is hosting an open house on Wednesday, July 10, from 3 to 6 pm.

The event will allow members of the community to meet the organization’s medical director, Dr. Mary Glickman, and the health center staff, while showcasing the building’s recent renovations and enhancements.

It will also offer an opportunity for community members to learn more about physical-therapy services that are now offered at Smith House. A physical therapist is available five days each week to assist those recovering from injury or others requiring therapy and strength training post-surgery.

Smith House was purchased by Elizabethtown Community Hospital in the fall of 2012. Call Jane Hooper at 873-3003 for more information.

Rating earned

WILLSBORO — BauerFinancial Inc., an independent bank-research firm, has awarded Champlain National Bank its highest rating of 5 Stars. This rating indicates that BauerFinancial considers Champlain National Bank to be a superior institution. With this rating, BauerFinancial has placed Champlain National Bank on its Recommended Report.

In determining its ratings, BauerFinancial used financial data that was reported to federal regulators from banks and credit unions across the country. Information used included the capital level of the institution, regulatory compliance, reserves, profitability, historical trends, loan delinquencies, repossessed assets, proposed regulations and asset quality.

Champlain National Bank, headquartered in Willsboro, was founded in 1909 and has nine branches throughout Clinton and Essex counties.

LAKE PLACID — Happy Campers Play Cafe located at 1991 Saranac Avenue, Lake Placid, will host a party for the grown-ups at the North Country Business Council Business After Hours on July 11 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Awards received

LAKE PLACID — Before a group of about 150 Mirror Lake Inn Resort and Spa employees, James Phelps, president and CEO of AAA Northway, presented the Lake Placid resort with its 29th consecutive AAA Four-Diamond Award. The View Restaurant at the inn was similarly presented by Phelps with its sixth consecutive AAA Four Diamond designation.

Only one other property in the state (located in Manhattan) has maintained the AAA Four Diamond Award as long as Mirror Lake Inn.

Only five percent of AAA’s 30,000 rated lodges achieve AAA Four Diamond status, and there are fewer than 100 nationwide that have held the Four Diamonds as long as 29 years. In addition, just two percent of 29,000 rated restaurants have the Four Diamonds.

The View and Mirror Lake Inn offer the only combination of Four Diamond lodging and dining in Lake Placid.

Owners Ed and Lisa Weibrecht live nearby and have overseen the Inn since 1976 with their daily, hands-on approach. Currently, there are 11 members of the staff with more than 20 years of experience at Mirror Lake Inn. There are 18 staff with more than 10 years and 17 with more than five years.

Seminar offered

TICONDEROGA — The Ticonderoga Federal Credit Union (TFCU) will host an Estate Planning and Asset Management Seminar covering today’s legal guidelines and presented by John Breitenbach. The complimentary workshop will take place Wednesday, July 31, at 6:30 p.m., at the Best Western Plus in Ticonderoga.

John Breitenbach will present general legal guidelines for basic estate planning and asset management that everyone, regardless of age or financial situation, should have. Breitenbach will examine the basic legal documents necessary to protect and manage assets, direct their orderly disposition and address health-care concerns including Last Will and Testament, Power of Attorney, Trusts, and a Health Care Proxy/Living Will.

He will discuss the purpose of these basic estate-planning tools and their importance for all individuals and families. Frequently asked questions and concerns for each document will also be discussed.

“Estate planning is a thoughtful process and TFCU is pleased to offer this session covering the basic essentials for the estate-planning needs of members who are interested in learning more,” said Shawn Hayes, TFCU president and CEO.

Breitenbach received his undergraduate degree at Western New England College and attended Albany Law School. In 2000, he was admitted to the New York State Bar and is a partner in the firm of Carney and Breitenbach in Ticonderoga.
