Mich. woman charged with kidnapping

SARANAC LAKE — A Michigan woman was arrested Wednesday in Saranac Lake for allegedly kidnapping her two young children.

New York State Police received information that Christie Hope-Erwin Clancy, 33, of Westland, Mich., was living in Saranac Lake, according to a news release from State Police.

In August, Clancy had fled Michigan with her two children, ages 4 and 6, police said in the release.

The children’s father is the custodial parent, police said.

The two children Clancy is charged with kidnapping are in the custody of Child Protective Services, police said.

Her two other young children, who were also living in the Saranac Lake home with Clancy, have also been turned over to Child Protective Services, police said.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Department said Clancy was charged with two counts of first-degree kidnapping, a felony.

She is being held in the Franklin County Jail without bail, awaiting extradition back to Michigan, authorities said.
