Police holding road checks in missing hiker search

PLATTSBURGH — State Police set up informational road checks for today and also planned to hand out fliers in an attempt to find a missing hiker.

Scott Haworth, 46, of Chicopee, Mass., was last seen Sept. 5 at the Valley Grocery Store in the Town of Keene, State Police said in a news release.

The road checks were set for 9 a.m. on State Route 86 in Ray Brook and State Route 73 in Keene, police said.

On Friday, State Police and Department of Environmental Conservation forest rangers finished their third day of searching for Haworth.

A Special Operations Response Team and members from the State Police Canine Team with DEC rangers combed the Round Pond/Dix Mountain area in Keene.

Haworth is an avid hiker who often heads out alone, police said.

He is 6 feet tall and weighs 165 pounds, police said.

Anyone who has seen Haworth is asked to call State Police in Ray Brook at 897-2000.
