Families to experience a Day on the Farm 

PLATTSBURGH — The Clinton County Farm Bureau is holding its second annual Day on the Farm Sept. 7 at Adirondack Farms, 193 Brown Rd., Peru.

Adirondack Farms is a dairy farm that milks approximately 2,100 cows a day. It was established in 1996. A Day on the Farm starts at 11 a.m. and goes until 3 p.m. with entertainment and educational activities happening throughout the day including Mccadam and Cabot cheese samples, farm tours, agriculture exhibits, hay-ride tours every half hour to explain how a modern dairy farm operates, a lineup of machinery used to help a modern-day farm operate, a children’s activity center with coloring and activity books, local vendors, a bouncy house for the kids, maple tastings and treats, a local vendor raffle and a BBQ lunch.

Tony LaPierre, president of the Clinton County Farm Bureau, said Farm Bureau “is excited and proud to have the opportunity to showcase modern agriculture to the public.”

Admission to the day is a $5 donation for adults and kids are free. All proceeds will benefit the Clinton County Farm Bureau. While enjoying the activities and learning about what it takes to operate a modern-day farm, families are encouraged to stop by the Farm Bureau booth to become a regular or supporting member.

July milk production shows increase

ALBANY — New York dairy herds produced 1,125 million pounds of milk during July, according to Blair Smith, state statistician of USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, New York Field Office. This is up 1.1 percent from a year earlier.

Dairy farmers in the Empire State received an average of $20.30 per hundredweight of milk sold during July, down 30 cents from June but up $2.90 from July a year ago.
