Promotion announced

PLATTSBURGH — Heather Mazzantini has been promoted to accounting clerk at UFirst Federal Credit Union.

Mazzantini has more than 10 years of financial-institution experience. She started her career at NBT Bank in 2003 where she was head teller III. In 2008, she became a member service representative at Northern Corridor Community FCU.

In October 2009, Northern Corridor Community FCU merged with UFirst FCU where Mazzantini became a member of the UFirst FCU team as a member service representative. Now, in her new position as accounting clerk, she will be assisting the interim VP of finance on a daily basis.

Mazzantini graduated from Brushton-Moira Central School in 1999 and is attending classes at Clinton Community College to continue her accounting education.

Bank recognized

PLATTSBURGH — Arrow Financial Corp., parent of Glens Falls National Bank, was recently recognized by American Banker Magazine as one of the nation’s top mid-tier banks based on its return on equity.

Arrow ranks 16th on the Mid-Tier Banks List. The magazine’s August edition looked at nearly 200 public and private companies with between $2 billion and $10 billion in assets. Arrow ranked 16th with a three-year return on average equity of 13.63 percent. It was the only upstate New York bank and one of just three newcomers in the top 25.

Arrow was included in the mid-tier group for the first time this year as a result of its assets exceeding $2 billion. The company previously appeared on American Banker’s annual list of community banks with less than $2 billion in assets, ranking 11th last year out of a pool of more than 1,000 institutions.

The recent designation follows other honors for Arrow in 2013, including being named one of America’s “Most Trustworthy Companies” by Forbes and a “Top-Performing Mid-Sized Bank” by the ABA Banking Journal.

Commendation received

PLATTSBURGH — The New York State Public Service Commission (PSC) recently awarded both PrimeLink and parent company Champlain Telephone Co. with their annual commendation for excellence in service quality to consumers during 2012. 

“This commendation reflects the commitment of both companies to overall service quality and dedication to our customers,” said Trent Trahan, CEO and president of Champlain Telephone. “This is definitely a tribute to the PrimeLink and Champlain Telephone employees who work hard to maintain our standard of excellence.”

This year, the PSC evaluated 40 incumbent carriers and 20 competitive local exchange carriers operating in New York State. Champlain Telephone is one of the incumbent carriers and PrimeLink is one of the competitive local exchange carriers that were recommended for the commendation. Commendations are based on three metrics, the Customer Trouble Report Rate and Complaint Rate, and achievement of incentive plan targets on these two measures where applicable.

The PSC has a mandate to ensure that all New Yorkers have access to reliable, low-cost utility services. The commission regulates the state’s electric, gas, steam, telecommunications and water utilities. They also oversee the cable industry. The commission sets rates and ensures that adequate service is provided by New York’s utilities. More information is available at

LAKE PLACID — The Lake Placid Olympic Museum will host the North Country Business Council Business After Hours on Sept. 12 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

The museum features the largest collection of Winter Olympic artifacts outside the International Olympic Committee’s museum in Lausanne, Switzerland. Attendees may check out the amazing collection, network with area business people and make new contacts at Business After Hours.

Donations raised

PLATTSBURGH — Ninety Nine Restaurant & Pub has raised more than $600,000 for the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute from fundraising efforts that took place throughout New England and New York from July 8 to Aug. 11.

Through the generosity of Ninety Nine Restaurants’ guests and team members, along with runners in the Falmouth Road Race and riders in the Pan Mass Challenge, funds were raised for the Jimmy Fund through adding $1, $3 or $5 (or more) to the total guest check and various in-restaurant events.

“This year marks our seventh year supporting the Jimmy Fund and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute,” said Ninety Nine Restaurants President John Grady. “We have dedicated staff and loyal guests in our communities who are looking to make a difference and we sincerely thank everyone who generously donated.”

This year’s Jimmy Fund fundraiser raised more than $277,000 from in-restaurant donations at the 105 Ninety Nine Restaurants’ Northeast locations combined with $323,000 from support and donations at in-restaurant events and from fundraising efforts for the Falmouth Road Race and the Pan Mass Challenge to reach the total of more than $600,000.

This year’s fundraiser marks a $170,000, or 40 percent, increase over last year’s effort, which raised $430,000.
