Pair charged with operating meth lab in camper

MOOERS — Warren B. Inman and Donald J. Labarge Jr. were arrested after State Police allegedly found a meth lab in a camper behind a Mooers residence.

A complaint on Tuesday regarding the theft of an “abnormal amount of lithium batteries” from a local business launched the investigation, said New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation Lt. Brent Davison.

“That wouldn’t just be your normal petit-larceny investigation,” he said. “That piqued our interest.”

That evening, troopers found the remnants of a meth lab in a camper located behind the residence at 131 Bashaw Road, he said.

Joined by members of the Troop B Narcotics Enforcement Unit, the troopers obtained a search warrant and continued to investigate.

Several items used in meth-making were secured as evidence, according to a State Police press release.

Inman, 54, who lives at the Bashaw Road address, and Labarge Jr., 41, were on the property when police arrived, Davison said, and both were charged.

While the lab wasn’t active when police found it, it likely was used several hours before, the lieutenant said.

“We suspect that it was probably active yesterday (Tuesday) during the day.”

Also found were several marijuana plants, processed marijuana, methamphetamine and a rifle, Davison said.

Inman, a convicted felon, was unlawfully in possession of the firearm, Davison said, though he hadn’t been charged with illegal firearm possession Wednesday.

He and Labarge, who lives in Champlain, were charged with third-degree unlawful manufacture of methamphetamine, a felony.

Labarge and Inman were arraigned before Village Justice John Labonte in Rouses Point Village Court and sent to Clinton County Jail on $15,000 cash bail.

Both men remained in Clinton County Jail Wednesday.

They are both due to reappear in court on Monday, according to the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department.
