LPCS names Catania acting super effective May 25

LAKE PLACID — Dr. Roger Catania has been named acting superintendent at Lake Placid Central Schools, with a start date of May 25.

May 24 will be the last day for Superintendent Dr. Randy Richards; by mutual agreement with the Lake Placid Central School Board, he will use accrued vacation days until the negotiated end date of his contract on June 30.

Catania had already been tapped as interim, to start July 1, but will begin earlier “to allow the district to conduct its normal business matters routinely handled by the superintendent of schools,” a press release said.

Richards, Catania and the School Board “have been working together to ensure a smooth transition in leadership,” it continue.

“The Board of Education thanks Dr. Richards for his service to the district and wishes him well.”
