Northern Adirondack Central School and Saranac Lake Central School have received the 2013 School Safety Excellence Award from the Utica National Insurance Group. The schools are two of 121 districts and boards of cooperative educational services in the state to receive the honor, which provides property and liability insurance to more than 300 school districts in Upstate New York. NACS has been awarded the distinction eight times and earned titanium-level distinction this year. Saranac Lake is a six-time recipient of the award and also earned titanium-level distinction.
Donna Fulkerson of Saranac Lake has been appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Clinton-Essex-Franklin Library System. Fulkerson received a bachelor’s degree in writing, magna cum laude, from Hamilton College, and a master’s and Ph.D. in English and literature from Washington University. She has taught at Paul Smiths’ College, St. Francis University in Pennsylvania and Ohio Northern University. She has volunteered on the Community Store Board, the Saranac Lake Free Library Board, as a library assistant at St. Bernard’s School in Saranac Lake and on the Women’s College Scholarship Club as a member, vice president and corresponding secretary.
