AuSABLE — A Lake Placid woman was charged Thursday with aggravated drunken driving and vehicular assault after she crashed a car with a 15-year-old passenger inside.
The one-car rollover accident was reported to State Police at 4:30 p.m., State Police Troop B Public Information Officer Trooper Jennifer Fleishman said.
Trudy B. Silver, 47, of Lake Placid was driving a purple Lincoln MKX SUV southbound on Clintonville Road/County Route 39 in the Town of AuSable when she lost control of the vehicle, crossed into the opposite lane of traffic, drove off the road and struck a tree, Fleishman said.
Silver, Bert C. Lawrence, 43, of Lake Placid and a 15-year-old boy who police declined to identify were taken by ambulance to CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh.
The teen complained of pain to his left leg and was not wearing a seat belt when the car crashed, Fleishman said.
He was transferred from CVPH Medical Center to Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vt., for further treatment, she said.
Lawrence may have had a back injury and Silver complained of chest and abdomen pain, Fleishman said.
Silver failed a field sobriety test at the site of the accident and was charged with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated, she said.
A blood sample was collected at the hospital for alcohol-content analysis at the New York State Police Forensic Science Laboratory in Albany.
Further charges are pending the results of the blood analysis, Fleishman said.
Troopers arrested Silver at 6:25 p.m. upon her discharge from CVPH, she said.
Silver incurred the felony Leandra’s Law charge of aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child in the vehicle as well as second-degree vehicular assault, a felony.
Silver was also issued traffic tickets for consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle; having a passenger between the ages of 7 and 15 who was not wearing a seat belt; unsafe speed; moving from lane unsafely; and failure to keep right.
The SUV, which the trooper described as “demolished” in his report, was towed from the accident site, Fleishman said.
