Locals make plans for holiday weekend

PLATTSBURGH — As the last weekend of summer vacation begins, a number of local people are on track for a day at the races.

We asked Press-Republican Facebook readers about their weekend plans, and several are heading for the thoroughbred racetrack at Saratoga Springs. This is the final weekend of the session there.

Most people’s plans involved being outdoors, and it looks like the weather will cooperate, for the most part, with temperatures in the mid to upper 70s and just a chance of thunderstorms.

You can read about local events each day this weekend in the Press-Republican’s Weekend Ideas listing.

Here’s a sampling of what people have planned:

Jody Trautner Hart: “SARATOGA!”

Deidre M. Duffina: “To ride my horses.”

Ann Jason Whalen: “Absolutely NOTHING!”

Thomas Edwin: “Lake Placid region...”

Gail Henklein Brill: “Farm 2 Fork Festival in Saranac Lake!!! SO much fun! And Hobofest on Sunday!”

Jill M. Neverett Friedrich: “Off to Saratoga Race Track with friends; they owe me! (wink!)”

Kathy N Farmer: “Going to Saratoga Race Track also lol and camping before all the sites close.”

John Smith: “Having a big cookout.”

Roger Bibeau: “Heading to the GREAT NYS Fair in Syracuse.”

Chastity Renee Vaughan: “I won a family 4 pack tickets to the movies from 92.9 STAR so gonna enjoy that with my family before the kids go back to school.”

FYI...
  • Stepping forward: The real Colbert

Letterman changed the late-night TV game between his run on NBC's "Late Night" and starting the "Late Show" franchise in 1993. And while it's tough to replace a pop-culture icon, Colbert, in terms of pedigree and sense of humor, makes the most sense.
