---- — CHATEAUGAY — A field of 30 applicants has been reduced to five for an initial round of interviews for the Chateaugay Central School District’s superintendent job.
Steven Shafer, superintendent of the Franklin-Essex-Hamilton Board of Cooperative Educational Services, said the Chateaugay Central School Board reviewed the 30 applications on Aug. 12 and reduced the number of possible candidates to 15.
During a second session on Aug. 19, the board selected five people to interview.
Shafer said board members will hold the first series of interviews on either Sept. 9 or 10.
The district is seeking to fill the superintendent position left vacant when Dale Breault left Chateaugay Central in July after 18 years as a teacher and administrator.
He took the post of assistant director of the Northeastern Regional Information Center in Plattsburgh.
Wayne Walbridge, a former Malone Central School District superintendent who retired for the second time there in June, is the interim superintendent at Chateaugay until a new person is hired.
The annual salary for the Chateaugay position is advertised between $95,000 and $110,000.
The district hopes to have someone in place by Nov. 1, Shafer said.
