Lane reduction to accompany Crown Point bridge work

CROWN POINT — Motorists are advised that portions of the Champlain Bridge will be reduced to one alternating lane during the day beginning Monday.

The lane reduction will be in place on weekdays on an intermittent basis 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. until about Sept. 24 as bearings underneath the bridge are adjusted.

The work is part of the process to close out the contract to construct the bridge.

The new bridge, spanning Crown Point to Addison, Vt., opened in 2011 to replace an 80-year-old span engineers said could not be repaired.
