ELCS Board takes next steps to hiring new leader

ELIZABETHTOWN — The Elizabethtown-Lewis Central School Board expects to appoint its new superintendent/principal when it meets Thursday in the conference room adjacent to the school’s main entrance.

The meeting starts at 6 p.m.

The board chose Scott Osborne last week to fill the position; since then, said Interim Superintendent A. Paul Scott, the terms and conditions of employment have been under negotiation.

“The parties are working to iron out the various details of that agreement,” he said.

It’s a normal process when a new chief school officer is hired, Scott said, as there is no union for that position — the contract will be between Osborne and the School Board.

Osborne, now principal at Peru Primary School, is expected to take the reins at ELCS about Dec. 1.

He had served as principal at ELCS from 2007 to 2009.

Also at Thursday’s session, it is anticipated that the School Board will consider a proposed plan of action concerning architect John McKenna’s assessment of the roof systems and associated structural elements, and, among other agenda items, authorize a two-month piloting of BYOD (allowing students to Bring Your Own Devices) in a limited number of class sections beginning at or near the start of November through December.
