Arrests bring relief in Keeseville

KEESEVILLE — Dan Holderman, mayor here, was relieved to learn arrests had been made in connection with the late August murder of Robert M. Rennie.

Rennie, 45, and father of two daughters, Morgan and Makenzie, was found dead Aug. 26, causing a wave of disbelief to wash over the community.

“As far as I know, Robert was a decent fellow, and I know his little girls,” the mayor said. “I am glad to see that the State Police took their time, put a lot of energy in and brought people in from across the state to get to the bottom of it.”

Paul J. Taylor is charged with second-degree murder, among other charges; Michael D. Rivers and Scott Denno face manslaughter and other charges. All three live in Keeseville.

Holderman knew Taylor had been released from jail not all that long ago, for a crime that resembled Rennie’s murder.

“Paul has been a career criminal. He and another person beat a guy up in Moriah, put a tree on his chest and left him to die.”

Rennie was born in Plattsburgh and graduated in 1986 from AuSable Valley Central School before working as a carpenter and roofer with various construction companies.

He was also owner and operator of Rennie Construction and did work for Security Concepts.

Friday, Rennie’s father, Robert J. Rennie, of Fern Lake declined to share any reaction, telling the Press-Republican the situation was too premature to make a comment.

His son was an avid NASCAR fan who enjoyed spending time with his two girls, according to the younger Rennie’s obituary.

He was the sole provider for the children after their mother, Michelle K. Blaise, died suddenly of a heart condition in 2008.
