Artwork of former Dannemora inmate found at yard sale

GLENDALE, Ariz. — A recent item on Yahoo news referenced a famous former inmate of Dannemora Prison, now Clinton Correctional Facility.

Pam Dwyer of Glendale dished out $5 for a picture of a horse at a garage sale; behind that image, though, was an original portrait of John F. Kennedy dated 1961 and signed by the artist, Carmelo Soraci.

Soraci was a forger who served 21 years for passing bad checks, incarcerated at Dannemora Prison.

He is also the craftsman who made the stained-glass windows for the prison chapel, artistry that got him the job of doing the same for Sing Sing.

According to the Yahoo report, an appraiser valued JFK portrait at between $2,500 and $5,000.

in Rouses Point

ROUSES POINT — The Rouses Point Village Office is reminding drivers that the parking ban for all vehicles on village streets between 2 and 6 a.m. will be in effect from Dec. 1 to March 31, 2013.

This prohibition is necessary to permit the efficient plowing of streets and prevent damage to any private vehicles during plowing or sanding operations, according to a news release.

Also, residents are asked to make sure that cars parked in driveways do not block the sidewalks.
