Rouses Point redevelopment session set for Nov. 26

ROUSES POINT — The Village of Rouses Point will begin its effort to leverage redevelopment of key downtown and waterfront properties with a work session with River Street Planning and Economic Development to review potential properties.

The session, to be held instead of a previously planned walking tour, is set for 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26, at the Civic Center on Lake Street.

The planning effort is funded by an Environmental Protection Fund grant from the Department of State Local Waterfront Program.

Members of the Rouses Point Revitalization Committee will serve as the Project Advisory Committee for the project. New members are welcome; express interest to Trustee Rebecca Reid at becky.reid@yahoo.com or 297-2777 or Melissa McManus at melissamcmanusllc@gmail.com or 297-6753.

All Rouses Point Revitalization Committee meetings are open to the public, and all are welcome.

DOT to rebuild routes 3 and 30 in Tupper Lake

TUPPER LAKE — Following public input, the New York State Department of Transportation has chosen a preferred alternative for the reconstruction of state routes 3 and 30 in the Village of Tupper Lake.

The plan will use the existing highway rather than develop a new alignment, DOT said in a press release.

To do otherwise would have had “significant impacts on existing properties and businesses in the village.”

The project will necessitate the reconstruction of Wawbeek Avenue, Park Street, Mill Street and Lake Street from Pleasant Avenue to Mill Street. Minor improvements will be made to the remainder of Lake Street as part of the project to accommodate traffic using Lake Street as a detour around ongoing work.

Water and sewer lines along the length of the project will be improved as well.

The $12.7 million project is expected to go bid in October of 2014, with construction starting in the spring of 2015 and taking about two years to complete.
