Peru man killed in motorcycle crash

SCHUYLER FALLS — Joshua Ormsby of Peru was killed Friday when his motorcycle hit a tractor-trailer.

The accident happened at about 4:45 p.m. at the intersection of Flat Rock Road and Route 22B in Schuyler Falls, Clinton County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. William Dominy said.

Jeffrey Cross, 55, of Cadyville was driving a 2007 Kenworth truck that was towing an unloaded logging trailer, he said.

He was traveling northbound on Route 22B and was turning west onto Flat Rock Road when Ormsby’s black 1999 Honda motorcycle struck the rear axle of the trailer, he said.

Ormsby, 26, was ejected from the bike, and he sustained injuries to his head, right arm and right leg, Dominy said.

Dr. John Broderick pronounced Ormsby dead at 5:16 p.m. at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, where an autopsy is scheduled for Monday, he said.

Cross was evaluated by Morrisonville EMS, but was not injured, the sergeant said.

Authorities shut down Route 22B from Sand Road to Broadwell Road, and Flat Rock Road was blocked off between Soper Street and Route 22B until 9 p.m., when emergency personnel cleared the site.

While the road was clear of traffic, investigators from the State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit worked to re-create the events, Dominy said.

Also assisting were Morrisonville Volunteer Fire Department and the State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit.

The investigation is pending the results of the accident reconstruction, and no charges were filed, Dominy said.
