PLATTSBURGH — The Clinton County Clerk’s Office has adopted electronic recording (e-recording) of documents with Simplifile, giving customers the option to submit documents online for faster, more efficient recording.
“E-recording will allow our customers to record their documents from the convenience of their offices, saving them valuable time and money,” County Clerk John Zurlo Sr. said in a press release.
Instead of having to send documents by mail, runner, courier service, or travel to the Clerk’s Office, customers such as title companies, banks, attorneys and other document submitters can now log in to Simplifile’s secure, web-based service, scan, upload and send documents directly to the Clerk’s Office for recording, the release said.
The Clerk’s Office receives, reviews, stamps, records and returns the documents back to the submitter through Simplifile, cutting down the wait time from several days or weeks down to minutes, it said.
Zurlo said they decided to start e-recording in Clinton County, as one of the goals of their office is “to stay on top of all new technology that comes along, so that our customers will be able to function using state-of-the-art capabilities.”
Payments and recording fees can also be processed electronically through Simplifile via Automated Clearing House (ACH), eliminating check-writing expenses and expediting the overall recording process.
“Clinton County is very pleased to be performing e-filing with Simplifile, as our past experiences with them with mail-in recordings presented no issues,” Zurlo added.
“We will accept all documents for e-recording that we accepted prior to e-recording.”
High-speed Internet access, a computer and a scanner are the minimum requirements for customers to be able to start e-recording.
