Vermontville site OK'ed for preparing food

VERMONTVILLE — The Franklin Town Hall has been certified as a food-prep location by the State Department of Health.

A few minor changes were required, including the addition of a three-bay sink to the kitchen.

As recorded in Town Council meeting minutes, Supervisor Art Willman said he had spoken with Friends of the North Country regarding about $3,900 left over from a town HUD grant awarded more than 10 years ago.

He was told the grant had been closed out for a long time and that how the overage was to be spent was up to the town. A resolution was passed to use the funds for purchase and installation of the sink.

In other business at the recent session:

ROAD SAND: The council opened bids for sand from Trudeau Sand and Gravel and Graymont Materials.

Trudeau’s bid was $4.35 per ton of screened road sand, and Graymont’s was $2.75 per ton of washed manufactured road sand.

The board authorized Highway Superintendent Jacques DeMars to purchase up to 12,000 tons of road sand, with the amount purchased from each vendor left up to him.

FUEL PUMPS: The council authorized Bloomingdale Volunteer Fire Department to use the Town of Franklin’s fuel pumps on an emergency basis. It will be billed for usage.

FUNDRAISER: Kate Mountain Community Recreation Association will hold a fundraiser on June 14 at Kate Mountain Recreation Park.

Town Clerk Lauren LeFebvre asked association member Derek Romeo how funds raised for the park would be turned over to the town.

Romeo said the purpose of the group is not to raise money for Kate Mountain Park or the town but rather for all needs deemed necessary by the group.

In response to a query by LeFebvre on the group’s status, he said it is incorporated as a nonprofit but has yet to file the paperwork to be designated a charitable organization. He agreed to provide sufficient documentation, since it holding its fundraiser on town property.
