MALONE — Country-music star Josh Turner, classic-rock pioneers the Guess Who and Celtic musicians Willis Clan headline the 2014 Franklin County Fair.
The 164th edition of the County Agricultural Society Fair will be held Aug. 1 through 10.
A partial list of the grandstand acts was announced recently by Ag Society President Dave St. Mary, Entertainment Chairman Dale Chapin and Treasurer Pat Maneely.
Tickets for all shows go on sale June 2.
THE WILLIS CLAN
“We’ve got a good variety of acts, especially the Willis Clan, which is a family of 12 artists, mostly children,” St. Mary said. “They play Celtic music and dance like in Riverdance. They’re a very talented group.”
He said the family performed at the annual meeting of the State Fair Association in Rochester and made such an impression that the board decided to bring them to Malone.
Special shuttle buses will be used to ferry guests back and forth for the Josh Turner concert on Saturday, Aug. 9.
“We’re expecting a big crowd for him,” said St. Mary. “They’re going to be setting up three big-screen monitors, and he has two semis of lights and equipment.”
THE GUESS WHO
The Guess Who retains two of its original members and is expected to play a number of hits from the 48 albums the band has released in the past 40-plus years.
Rather than reserve-track seating for the show, it will be reserve-standing space because “with a rock concert, people are going to be up and dancing,” St. Mary said.
And even though the Trailside Tavern is next to the grandstand, Chapin said, the board also plans to set up a beer truck in a secured, roped-off area on the track to sell to the standing Guess Who crowd.
Terry Lee Goffee returns to the grandstand with the Ultimate Johnny Cash Tribute Show, and new to this year’s lineup is the return of the draft-horse pull, which has not been held for 10 years.
