Durnin wins open seat on NACS board

ELLENBURG — In a special election held Monday, Shirley Durnin won a seat on the Northern Adirondack Central School Board.

She received 123 votes to opponent Claire Bosley Lambert’s 100 and will finish out the unexpired term of Stephen Peryea, beginning July 1 and ending in June 2015.

Peryea recently resigned from the board, but too late for the district to include his seat on the ballot for the May 21 vote.

A retired pharmacy technician, Durnin, 74, is a former Town of Dannemora supervisor and also a member of a number of civic organizations, including the Mountain Top Senior Housing Board of Directors, Catholic Daughters of America, Lyon Mountain Fire Department Auxiliary and Lyon Mountain Youth Commission. She and husband, William Durnin Sr., have four adult children.
