Police confirm investigation at frat house

AXP president said people brought weapons into house

PLATTSBURGH — Yellow crime scene tape lined the portion of Brinkerhoff Street in front of the AXP fraternity house Saturday afternoon, as police investigated what sources said was a possible assault and fight.

Plattsburgh City Police Chief Desmond Racicot confirmed officers are conducting an investigation there but would not say the nature of the alleged crimes.

’PEOPLE WITH WEAPONS’

”The information I have is there was a group of individuals that came to my house early in the morning around 3:30 a.m. with weapons,” said John Mastronardo, president of SUNY Plattsburgh’s AXP chapter. “I heard there was knives, a (baseball) bat, a hammer.”

Mastronardo said he did not know the number of people who were involved in the incident and he didn’t know who called police.

“I came home this morning at 8:30, and this is what I came home to,” he said, referring to City Police patrol car parked outside.

An officer exited the car when the crime-scene investigation truck arrived about 45 minutes later.

Authorities handed Mastronardo a search warrant, and officials entered the large, blue house, one taking pictures of the porch area.

The fraternity is officially recognized by SUNY Plattsburgh.

“There’s really not much I can say right now because it is an active investigation,” said Michelle Ouellette, director of public Relations and Publications at SUNY Plattsburgh.

“We don’t want to interfere with the police investigation.”

‘NO PARTY’

As far as what happened leading up to the incident, Mastronardo said, “There was not a party. A few of the brothers had a couple of their girlfriends and a few friends over and that was it. There was no planned party here.”

Mastronardo said he was unsure whether any AXP fraternity members were involved.

“I wasn’t here during the incident,” he said.

Two members of the fraternity went to the City Police station to give statements, the fraternity president said.
