ALBANY — A new Adirondacks-North Country Tourism Advertising Campaign designed to drive tourism and grow the local economy this summer as the region continues to recover from Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee has been launched, according to Gov. Andrew Cuomo
The campaign comes on the heels of the governor’s inaugural Adirondack Challenge and is part of his ongoing commitment to attract more tourism and jobs to Upstate New York.
“With more than 2,000 miles of hiking trails, 3,000 lakes and ponds and stunning natural wonders, the Adirondacks and North Country make for the perfect summer escape,” Cuomo said. “If people see it, they will come, and that’s what this new campaign is all about. We are shining a spotlight on everything this region has to offer because it is back and open for business after being hit hard by Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee two years ago.”
Cuomo urged native New Yorkers not to leave the state for vacation this summer and to everyone else looking for the perfect summer getaway to come and experience the Adirondacks and North Country.
In May, Cuomo announced the launch of New York’s largest tourism campaign in decades, committing nearly $60 million to grow New York industries, create jobs and attract even more visitors to the Empire State. A recent report by Tourism Economics showed statewide tourism spending up 6.2 percent in 2012 and tourism gains in every region in the state.
