PLATTSBURGH — A film crew from cable television’s Travel Channel will be here today to film a segment on souped-up recreational vehicles.
The star of the show will be a 2003 Airstream SkyDeck RV, which was fully restored in Plattsburgh at Nomad Airstream.

“We installed many special features and made the interior and exterior so much better, and it really is something,” Steven Clement, co-owner of Nomad Airstream, told the Press-Republican.
The Travel Channel show “Mega RV Countdown” features luxurious customized vehicles and how they were crafted. Producers of the program heard about Nomad and contacted Clement about doing a segment.
A crew of around 30 people will begin filming the vehicle and conducting interviews at around 9 a.m. at Nomad’s plant on the former Plattsburgh Air Force Base.
The filming will then move to Cumberland Bay State Park, where the vehicle is parked, starting at about 11 a.m.
The air date of the program has yet to be determined.
The featured SkyDeck is owned by Allain St. Pierre of Quebec City, Quebec, who recently brought it to Plattsburgh for refurbishing at Nomad.
Measuring 40 feet long, 9 feet wide and about 13 feet high, it features a rooftop patio, complete with a bed, barbecue and sound system.
The rig, valued at more than $500,000, also has a wine cellar and glass-and-ceramic shower.
“The shower is awesome,” Clement said.
He said local businesses Schluter Systems and Lee Appliance have been good local partners in supplying products for some of their refurbishing jobs.
“It’s been fun doing this work in Plattsburgh and creating jobs,” Clement said.
“This (television show) will be great for all of us.”
