Nursing Honor Guard being formed

PLATTSBURGH — Plattsburgh area nurses are in the process of implementing a new program that recognizes and honors men and women who have dedicated their professional lives to nursing.

At the family’s request, the Honor Guard will pay tribute to any local retired or active nurse at the time of their death.

The Honor Guard is an opportunity to show appreciation to these compassionate individuals who devoted their lives to caring for the sick at the most vulnerable points in their lives.

Active and retired nurses volunteer their time to honor fellow nurses as part of the Nursing Honor Guard.

The initiative was suggested by Shelley Willette, a nurse who had been working to establish this for the area, according to organizers Joni-Jill Tobrocke and Wanda Flynn.

“When she passed, we were able to make her dream a reality,” they said in a statement. “In her honor, we are calling our local honor guard Shelley’s Watch.

For more information, or if you are interested in volunteering for the Nursing Honor Guard, contact Joni-Jill Tobrocke at, 561-8050; or Wanda Flynn at, 566-7450.
