Houses aglow with Christmas spirit

Press-Republican

PLATTSBURGH — Houses all across the North Country are decked out for Christmas.

Some communities host holiday decorating contests for houses and businesses, often with donated prizes.

But others, including the City and Town of Plattsburgh, don't have special recognition for dressed-up homes.

To help people find some of the best-dressed places, we asked our Facebook followers to recommend some places worth checking out.

Here are some of the sites they told us about:

Amanda Saukas: "Durand Road has a beautifully lit house!! I have lived in the area my whole life, and I have never seen a house with so much Xmas spirit!! They should be featured in the paper, not only for how much work they put into their lights but because of how much Xmas spirit is there! Every year, I look forward to detouring down that road to drive by nice and slow and enjoy the beautiful lights and Xmas scene!!!

Bonnie Shatraw Wingler: Route 3 just past what used to be the Pine Cone Restaurant, just before the Akey Road, heading west toward Cadyville. The people in that area have decorated a forest of trees in holiday color. Absolutely beautiful!

Crystal Rivers Barber: "My house is decorated as every year, but extra special treat this year: Santa is at the house. You will see him walk up to window, wave, read his list. 18 Oliver St., Chazy. Love to see people come by and look. Happy Holidays, everyone."

Debbie McClary Wilkie: "I know there's one in the middle of Oak Street that almost burned my corneas out last night.

Jean Rivers: Durand Road in Beekmantown. My dad always does a wonderful job and puts a lot of work into his decorations."

Josh Dashnaw: "On the Blake Road in Peru. The house lights up the whole road."

Judy Laramie: "There are two on the northern end of Oak Street in Plattsburgh ... very nice."

Julie Caron: "Liberty Street in Keeseville. You can't miss it!"

Kim Decker: "Moriah, NY, Fiske Road, Steve and Missy Staples, so pretty."

Polly King: "Liberty Street, Keeseville!!! You gotta see it; it's amazing!"

Travis Martin: "Agree with Jean ... Her father does them every year and does a wonderful job and always looks amazing!!!!"

Wendy Farrell: "18 Oliver St., Chazy, my mom's house. It is awesome, even has Santa in the window getting ready for Christmas."
