PLATTSBURGH — State Police Trooper Trevor Donah was in Clinton County Court Thursday afternoon for a conference on rape charges.
On Feb. 5 of this year, Donah, 32, was charged with first-degree rape and first-degree attempted rape, allegedly involving two female victims.
Additional charges were filed, and a third alleged victim emerged less than a week later.
In court Thursday, Donah was dressed in a suit and flanked by family members and his lawyer, Brian Barrett, who has a practice in Lake Placid.
Donah and his lawyer conferenced with prosecutors in the judge’s chambers for about 45 minutes.
The special prosecutors for the case are Franklin County District Attorney David Champagne and Franklin County Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Crawford.
Clinton County District Attorney Andrew Wylie turned the case over to them because a conflict of interest was discovered in the early stages of investigation.
Two State Police investigators from the Violent Crimes Unit in Ray Brook were also present in the courtroom.
No trial date was set.
Just days after his arrest, a grand jury indicted Donah on two counts of first-degree rape, first-degree attempted rape, first-degree sexual abuse, three counts of first-degree unlawful imprisonment, second-degree unlawful imprisonment, second-degree assault, two counts of third-degree assault and two counts of criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation.
All charges are felonies except for second-degree unlawful imprisonment, third-degree assault and criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation.
The indictment stems from incidents that allegedly occurred between 2008 and 2012, according to court records.
Donah knew the women, Champagne told the Press-Republican, and the assaults took place when he was off duty.
Orders of protection for the three women were put in place after his arrest.
After his arraignment Feb. 11, Donah was released from custody after he posted $50,000 cash or $100,000 bond.
