TICONDEROGA — Ticonderoga’s main thoroughfare will be shut down on Saturday as Streetfest rumbles in for another year.
“We’ve had great success with Streetfest,” Co-organizer Robert C. Dedrick said. “Every year, it’s gotten bigger and bigger.”
For the community celebration this year, Montcalm Street will be closed from Lake George Avenue to Champlain Avenue between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
“When this started five years ago, the mission was to help the downtown,” Dedrick said. “We’re delighted with the entertainment and the merchants and vendors we have participating this year.”
Downtown Ticonderoga will become a pedestrian mall for a day, he said.
“Streetfest grew and grew. It’s going to be amazing this year. I think people will really be excited if they come.”
The Fort Ticonderoga Fife and Drums Corps will not only perform at 10 a.m., Dedrick said, but is bringing with it the 3rd New Jersey Field Music Corps, Deep River Junior Ancient Fife and Drum Corps, the Fifes and Drums of the Lincoln Minutemen and Hanaford’s Volunteers Fife and Drum Corps.
Those musical units will be performing at the fort later in the day and for a special Twilight Tattoo concert Saturday evening at the fort.
The Ticonderoga Montcalm Street Partnership sponsors Streetfest every year, and Darlene Treadway is co-organizer with Dedrick this year.
Ticonderoga Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Matthew Courtright said they have 60 vendors signed up, in addition to local merchants.
“The merchants on Montcalm Street almost all do come out for Streetfest,” he said. “This is the first time there’s been nonstop music.”
RAIN OR SHINE
At 1:30 p.m., nationally-ranked Elvis Presley tribute artist James Cawley of Ticonderoga will perform until 3 p.m. The Loose Connections band of Moriah is at 11 a.m. and musician Joe McGinness at noon.
They also have caricature artist P.K. Duell of Albany doing sketches, professional full-face painter Art Bucket and Penelope the Clown (Catherine Sprague) of Moriah.
“It’s held rain or shine,” Dedrick said. “Admission is free, and there will be food, arts and crafts, vintage cars, sidewalk sales and activities for kids.
“We’ve got something for everyone.”
