JAY — Adam C. VanValkenburg faces charges of first-degree sexual abuse in connection with an 11-year-old girl, authorities say.
VanValkenburg, 25, forcibly subjected the child to sexual abuse, State Police Troop B Public Information Officer Trooper Jennifer Fleishman said Monday.
“The abuse occurred at his home on one occasion at the beginning of June,” she said.
“He essentially held her down during the abuse, wouldn’t let her free.
“The victim was known to him.”
Vanvalkenburg abused the child through her clothes, Fleishman said.
Family of the girl reported the alleged crime, she said.
VanValkenburg, arrested on Friday, July 11, was charged with first-degree sexual abuse, a felony, and second-degree unlawful imprisonment, a misdemeanor.
He was arraigned in Jay Town Court and taken to Essex County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond.
An order of protection was issued to the victim and her family, Fleishman said, that also indicated he is not to have contact with anyone under the age of 18.
VanValkenburg is due back in court at a later date.
He remained jailed on Monday.
