TUPPER LAKE — A Tupper Lake man has been charged with rape and other sex charges.
At 7:10 p.m. Sunday, July 6, the Tupper Lake Police Department arrested Fred R. Gadway, 53, accusing him of raping a female in her home on July 5.
Tupper Lake Police said a woman contacted the department on July 5, saying she believed she had been sexually abused by a male friend.
Further investigation by the department found that she had arrived home in the early morning on July 5 after consuming a large amount of alcohol.
She told police she had passed out when she returned home, after which Gadway allegedly removed her pants and proceeded to have oral sexual contact and sexual intercourse with her, the release said.
Police charged Gadway with first-degree rape, first-degree criminal sexual act and first-degree sexual abuse, all felonies.
He was arraigned in Tupper Lake Town Court by Judge Leonard Young and sent to Franklin County Jail in lieu of $30,000 cash bail or $60,000 bond.
He was set to reappear in court at 5 p.m. Monday.
New York State Police and the Lake Placid Police Department assisted the Tupper Lake Police Department.
The incident is still under investigation.
