Plattsburgh man charged with making meth

PLATTSBURGH — Police say Shawn Burnell set up a meth lab in an apartment of an acquaintance, making several batches of the drug.

In early May, Plattsburgh City Police spoke with someone who said materials used to make the drug — pseudoephedrine, Coleman fuel, ice packs and batteries — were reportedly being used in an apartment at 70 Brinkerhoff St. to make the stimulant, City Police Lt. Patrick Rascoe said.

Officers found the remnants of the lab there, Rascoe said.

Burnell had been using the one-pot method, which yields about a gram per batch, Rascoe said, adding that he was likely making the drug for his personal use.

Burnell, who lived at the Sundance Motel on Route 9, was charged May 14 with third-degree unlawful manufacture of methamphetamine, a felony.

He was arraigned in Plattsburgh City Court.

No further information was available.
