PLATTSBURGH — F.W. Webb has received approval for a new Plattsburgh facility.
The Town Planning Board has approved the company’s detailed preliminary plan for the 33,600-square-foot building.
F.W. Webb Chief Financial Officer Bob Mucciarone said they hope to move into the new location early in 2015.
“We plan to be in there by January or February,” he said.
TO DOUBLE WORKERS
The new facility is to be built at 492 Tom Miller Road, across from the entrance to Heritage Heights housing development.
Cathleen Barry, general manager of the company’s Queensbury location, said they have six employees in Plattsburgh now and plan to add about six more in the next few years.
They are excited about building a new facility in Plattsburgh, she said.
“This will allow us to better serve our customers and stock more material for their needs,” Barry said.
Mucciarone said the construction project will go out to bid, with local contractors to be given high consideration.
The company’s application for final approval was tabled in May due to Planning Board concerns about the appearance of the building.
The company preferred a red, metal-sided building with a white facade in front in keeping with their corporate color scheme, but the Planning Board asked for alternatives that fit in better with other buildings along Tom Miller Road.
The company presented alternatives and received approval for a beige masonry and two canopies on the lower front section and beige sheet metal on the taller rear warehouse section.
The company also agreed to realign rooftop HVAC units to make them less visible to traffic driving on Tom Miller Road.
Mucciarone said that as a wholesale company, F.W. Webb is not used to requests to dress up its buildings.
“We were gladly able to work it out with the town,” he said.
