Brooklyn man charged with heroin possession

PLATTSBURGH — Police say a Brooklyn man was found Friday with about 470 wax envelopes of heroin.

Michael A. Marrero, 24, was walking on Route 9 in the Town of Plattsburgh when troopers stopped him for failing to use a nearby designated crosswalk, State Police said in a news release.

During an interview with police, Marrero admitted to possessing heroin, police said.

State Police said Friday that single bags of heroin are going for about $35 a bag on the street, making the drugs worth almost $16,500 if sold individually.

He was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, a felony.

He was arraigned by Town Justice Kevin Patnode at Plattsburgh Town Court and was sent to Clinton County Jail without bail because he has three prior felony convictions, police said.

Marrero is due back in court at 4 p.m. Monday.
