Westport Library to hold annual book sale

WESTPORT — Westport Library has planned its annual book sale for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 4, 5 and 6.

Books will be upstairs and downstairs in the library as well as under a tent on the lawn.

Of particular interest this year are several hard-to-find books on the history of Essex County (Smith’s history from 1885 and Watson’s from 1869) and Elizabethtown (1905 edition of “Pleasant Valley”), large selections of engineering and construction books, boating and boat building, books of cartoons and vintage children’s books.

In addition there will be dozens of quilt patterns for sale, and an assortment of vinyl records for record enthusiasts.

The traditional First View Party will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. July 3. For a donation of $15, one can listen to the music of Russ Bailey, bid on the Moroccan rug raffle, enjoy refreshments, find a special book or two, visit with friends and enjoy the party, according to a press release.

Saranac Lake Library to host Summer Reading Program

SARANAC LAKE — The Saranac Lake Free Library, 109 Main St., will host its Mary MacIntyre Summer Reading Program, from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesdays, July 9, 16 and 23, in the Cantwell Community Room.

Children will be organized in pre-school, first and second, and third and fourth grade groups.

Fizz, Boom, Read! is the theme that will tie together the stories, craft projects, activities and special guests.

Sherman Library plans summer reading program

PORT HENRY — Fizz, Boom, Read and Spark a Reaction are coming to the Sherman Free Library in Port Henry this summer.

The summer reading program includes Fizz, Boom, Read for children ages 5 to 11. Fizz, Boom, Read will meet at 6 p.m. Thursdays from July 24 through Aug. 14 for science-themed presentations including a magician, live birds and animals, and more.

Spark a Reaction is for ages 12 to 14. The Spark a Reaction book club will meet July 16, July 30 and Aug. 13 to discuss three books.

All participants who keep a log of books read throughout the program will be entered in a prize drawing.

Signup for both age groups is July 8 through 12 at the library.

Reading logs and program schedule will be handed out at that time.
