Local tech company on the move

CADYVILLE — A local technology-business owner is proof that you can grow a first-rate business right here in the North Country.

Kimmel Services owner David Kimmel said he has been in business for five years and gross sales have doubled every year. He said it has been rewarding to find success running his own business.

“This year we doubled last year’s gross sales by March. This will be our biggest year ever,” Kimmel said. “The growth is real, it’s measurable and it’s exciting.”

He was the sole employee when it started. Buoyed by the support of his wife,Cynthia, and friends in the business community who provided him work early on, it has since grown to include nine employees.

Growth is behind current efforts to renovate the work stations at the company, which is largely run from a basement workshop at his home. The project will result in a total of five tech benches when complete.

That will include one area dedicated to job modeling, where they will be able to lay out all the equipment for a project to ensure it all works properly before installation.

“That helps eliminate a lot of the problems that come with bigger jobs,” Kimmel said.

One of the company’s biggest strengths is its willingness to hire young people who have been able to showcase their abilities. He said the majority have come from the Cadyville area.

“I believe you can build a first-class company here in the North Country,” Kimmel said.

The main focus early on was computer repair, a service that continues at present. The business is now more focused on creating and managing IT networks and security systems for public- and private-sector entities.

Growth in that sector has led him to hire one person to run his website team and two more to provide assistance in that area. One example of his work was the redesign and management of the Town of Plattsburgh website.
