Allegiant cited by Aviation Week

LAS VEGAS — Allegiant has been named by Aviation Week as the Top-Performing Airline in North America, in terms of business, for the third consecutive year.

The company ranks second among overall top-performing airline worldwide, just 0.3 points behind the top spot, and is top-performer worldwide in the small-carrier category for the second consecutive year.

Allegiant is based in Las Vegas and flies out of Plattsburgh International Airport and other sites.

"We are proud to be the Top-Performing Airline in North America," Andrew C. Levy, Allegiant president and chief operating officer, said in a news release.

"It is a testament to our relentless dedication to building a consistently profitable company, as well as the innovation and hard work of our great team members. We look forward to continued growth and strong financial performance."

Allegiant was recognized by Aviation Week for executing a profitable niche business model "extremely well" and being a leader among U.S. carriers in the use of ancillary fees and selling additional travel services.

The company also has the best five-year average score of any airline worldwide, 76.9, more than 5 points higher than the second-ranked carrier. 

In 2013, Allegiant swept the Top-Performing Airline rankings, taking the No. 1 spot for overall top-performing airline worldwide, top-performing airline in North America, top-performing small carrier, as well as having the top five-year average score.

The company was first recognized by Aviation Week as the top-performing low-cost airline worldwide in 2010.
