Whiteface introduces Adventure Zone

Whiteface Ski Resort adds summer fun

WILMINGTON — An Adventure Zone at Whiteface Ski Resort is promising thrills, sans snow.

Installed over the past few months, bungee trampolines, a climbing wall, giant airbag, huge slide, slackline poles and bounce cabins are some of what is new at the base lodge this summer.

The new park at Whiteface opens on Saturday, June 21, and will operate through Oct. 13.

General Manager Aaron Kellet said they are thrilled to add summer bounce, climb, flip, fly and jumping fun to the mountainside.

“We’ll have our own slacklines set up. There’s a climbing wall on the Spider Tower — it’s a tower with eight or nine platforms with a web to climb and a giant slide. It’s pretty cool; kids love it.”

The investment is designed to give summer visitors more to do and see here, Kellet said.

Already, Whiteface is an international destination for winter, and visitors do come back during the warm months.

“We have so many people coming to us now, asking for all-day activities,” he said.

Whiteface also added a summer segment to its Rock the Face music series, a popular winter ski-lodge event with live music.

Cloudspin Lounge will be open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, with live music 4 to 7 p.m. Saturdays.

“We built a cedar stage outside, off the deck, where the ski racks go,” Kellet said.

The racks are taken down at the end of the ski season, leaving a wide-open field where trails end in winter.

“It’s nice having it open. It works so well in the winter,” he said. “It’s huge, so it’s awesome that we’re doing something special with it in the summer. It’s such a beautiful space.”

The Cloudsplitter Gondola will run daily, starting Friday, June 20, with extended hours, too. The last trip up to the summit of Little Whiteface will be 5:30 p.m. instead of 4 p.m.
