---- — Dog count planned for Beekmantown

BEEKMANTOWN — The dog-control officer for the Town of Beekmantown will be conducting a dog enumeration during the summer.

By law, all owners of dogs 4 months of age and older, must have their dogs licensed with the town they reside in.

Any owner found to be in violation of dog-licensing requirements will be ticketed, and an additional fee of $5 per dog will be assessed.

Mountain Lake to host forum on area’s heroin crisis

PLATTSBURGH — Mountain Lake PBS will host a special public forum at 6 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, addressing the growing heroin crisis in the North Country.

The forum will be recorded and broadcast on 8 p.m. Friday, June 27. 

This hour-long special edition of Mountain Lake Journal will report on how widespread the heroin epidemic has become in the North Country over the last two years.

A panel of experts will discuss the impact on communities and efforts to combat the crisis, taking questions from the moderator and from the live studio audience.

“We are alarmed by this trend, and as a public media station, we have the opportunity to bring this discussion to the public,” President and CEO Alice Recore said in a statement. “This is an issue that impacts everyone in our community, and this forum will help bring this discussion out into the open.”

Award-winning host Thom Hallock will moderate the discussion, and contributing journalist Tomeka Weatherspoon will have an exclusive interview with a recovering addict.

The broadcast will be repeated at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 28, and 10 a.m. Sunday June 29.
