Young Careerist participants sought

PLATTSBURGH — Champlain Valley Business and Professional Women is accepting applications for participation in the 2013 Virginia Allan Young Careerist Program.

The competition will be held Tuesday, April 30, at American Legion Post 20 on Quarry Road in Plattsburgh.

The Young Careerist Program recognizes and celebrates the accomplishments of young professionals. The purpose of the program is to provide an opportunity for encouragement, support and recognition of women and men in the early stages of their careers.

Young Careerist representatives must be between 21 and 35 years of age; have been employed in business or professions with at least one year of full-time work experience; be living, working or training or continuing their education in New York state; and support the goals, objectives and legislative platform of BPW.

Participants must give a four-minute speech on one of these topics:

▶ If you were a TV commentator or analyst, what would be your review of the 2012 presidential election as to its impact on your generation’s future? (You may want to refer to the BPW Foundation website Generation Y information.)

▶ If you interviewed the governor of New York (or other high-ranking elected official who represents your interests), what information would you like to obtain as to current issues affecting the future of the state?

▶ New York values local control: What issues do you perceive as being of paramount importance to your community?

▶ If you could choose one woman whom you value as a role model, who would that person be and what are/were the accomplishments and values that made you select her?

A certificate, pin and one-year BPW membership will be awarded to the new Virginia Allan Young Careerist, as well as the opportunity to proceed to the state and regional competitions.

Applications to participate are due by Monday, April 15.
