New bar hours now in effect

ELIZABETHTOWN — The earlier bar closing time approved this week by the New York State Liquor Authority for Essex County is now in effect.

The retail sale of alcoholic beverages for on-premises consumption is prohibited from 3 a.m. to 8 a.m. Monday through Saturday and 3 a.m. to noon on Sundays, according to a press release from the Essex County Attorney’s Office.

“Therefore, bar closing times during these periods must occur at 3 a.m. throughout Essex County,” the release said.

Also, the state OK’d the Essex County Board of Supervisors’ request to remove the Good Friday noon to 3 p.m. ban on alcohol sales at off-premises package liquor stores.
