Woman charged with robbing 96-year-old

SARANAC LAKE — A Saranac Lake woman has been charged with trying to rob an elderly man.

Saranac Lake Village Police charged Teresa Gowan, 50, with third-degree robbery and attempted assault, both felonies, and fourth-degree criminal mischief.

She was arrested Saturday after police responded to a call reporting an unwanted person at a residence.

According to the police report, “investigation revealed that Gowan forcefully took $100 from the victim and attempted to cause injury to the 96-year-old victim.

“She was also charged with grabbing the phone away from the victim while he was in the process of calling police.”

Gowan was arraigned in Village Court and sent to Franklin County Jail in lieu of $10,000 cash bail or $20,000 bail bond.

The man was granted an order of protection against Gowan, police said.
