Fire damages Schluter Systems

---- — PLATTSBURGH — Almost two dozen fire departments battled a blaze at Schluter Systems L.P. at 194 Pleasant Ridge Road in Plattsburgh, according to Clinton County Dispatch.

A total of 23 departments responded to the fire, which was reported shortly after 5 p.m. with calls for assistance and additional departments to standby. Fire crews from West Chazy and Peru were on standby at South Plattsburgh Station 1 while a crew from Altona was on standby at Station 2. The list of responding departments was not available as of press time Saturday night.

Plattsburgh-based State Police officers were providing traffic control at the location and rerouting any approaching vehicles. Heavy smoke was visible from nearby roadways.  

According to its website, Schluter Systems manufactures ceramic and stone tile installation technology.

In 2012, the Press-Republican reported that the company had more than 200 employees and had received preliminary approval for a 73,343-square-foot expansion in the Town of Plattsburgh.

No further information about the fire was available Saturday night.
