Margaret Rose-McCandlish, daughter of Kelly Rose and Meg McCandlish of Wilmington, received the John Zachay Memorial Scholarship for $1,000. A graduate of Lake Placid High School, where she was president of the National Honor Society and a member of the Environmental Club, she is attending Middlebury College in Vermont to study psychology.
The University at Albany has awarded Multicultural High School Achievers Awards to three local students: Julianna Matos of Wilmington and Dominique Jacobs and Kason Tarbell, both of Hogansburg. The awards are for exemplary academic performance and leadership in their schools and communities.
A Chazy Central Rural School graduate was able to share the stories of the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington with the nation. Emily LaPierre, a junior television-radio major at Ithaca College, traveled to Washington, D.C., in August to interview participants in the Realize the Dream March and Rally, commemorating the 1963 event. Her footage was used on “NBC Nightly News.”
