3 Dems, 1 Republican win Clinton Co. Legislature seats

PLATTSBURGH — Three Democrats and one Republican won Clinton County Legislature seats Tuesday.

Among them is one incumbent, Mark Dame, who defeated Area 8 challenger Bob Dolan.

The results will give Democrats a 7 to 3 majority on the board.

AREA 6

Despite the higher number of registered Republican voters in Area 6, voters chose Democrat Patty Waldron.

She won 54.6 percent of the vote, which totaled 1,908 ballots.

“I’m really excited,” Waldron said. “We live in a small town, and if they know you and trust you, it’s not like politics elsewhere. So, I’m really happy that they trusted me, and I’m going to serve them.”

Waldron spoke highly of her opponent, Republican John Bernardi, who could not be reached for comment Tuesday night.

AREA 4

Democrat Colin Read took the Area 4 seat with almost 57 percent of the 1,785 votes.

“My opponent, Gerard Renadette, he ran a very fine race, and he’s a very good politician,” Read said late Tuesday night. “I think that the voters really were wanting the people to articulate a strong vision for where our cities and towns can go. I think the successful candidates this time around were the ones that articulated that vision.”

Renadette congratulated Read on his well-run campaign.

“We both ran on our merits and on our strengths, and obviously, the voters have picked the proper person for the job. I wish him the best of luck, and I know he’s going to do a great job.”

AREA 8

Republican Mark Dame, who kept his Area 8 seat with just over 56 percent of the 1,552 votes cast, said he wasn’t completely comfortable claiming victory until the results had been made official.

“There are a great number of absentee ballots out there that have been the subjects of concern,” he said, referencing the possible voter fraud in his district.
