PLATTSBURGH — A scarecrow contest will highlight the First Weekends event in Downtown Plattsburgh in November.
Businesses and organizations located downtown are invited to create a scarecrow to display through this month. They can be any size and made out of any materials, including the participants’ products or packaging.
On Saturday, Nov. 2, First Weekend volunteers will bring the scarecrows to Trinity Park for display. Visitors to downtown will be invited to take creative photos with them to post on First Weekend’s Facebook and Twitter pages — @fwplattsburgh and #scaryplatts. The entrant with the most popular photo will win the scarecrow of his or her choice.
First Weekends, kicking off Friday, Nov. 1, then continuing through Saturday, will also feature live music, street performers, harvest games, a hay maze and other activities.
“The scarecrows are bound to generate attention,” First Weekends of Plattsburgh Inc. Vice President Leigh Simonette said in a press release.
“By having a photo contest, we hope to use that attention to both our benefit and the participating businesses.
“People are going to get competitive about who can take the most creative photo.”
To enter a scarecrow, email email@example.com. Participants will be given a First Weekends button for the scarecrow to wear, and the participant’s business or organization will be listed online.
Those who’d like to take part but don’t have the staff or time to build a scarecrow are asked to email First Weekends as well, as other arrangements might be possible.
