Fire levels mobile home in Malone

MALONE — Fire destroyed a mobile home near the corner of Valley and Whitten roads Friday afternoon.

Malone Callfiremen were called to 14 Valley Road at 2:07 p.m. and found the structure ablaze.

The home is owned by Edith Gallien of Constable, according to the County Real Property Tax Service office.

Chief Brian Gokey, who was in charge of the fire site, said someone was home when the fire broke out, but he could not provide further information at the time.

Firefighters from Constable were called for mutual aid, and Bangor volunteers were put on standby at the Malone station to cover any other calls.

Franklin County Emergency Services Director Ricky Provost and two of his assistant fire coordinators were helping as well, and Fire Police were there to direct traffic.

Tanker trucks maneuvered along the narrow, slush-covered road, bringing more water to the site.

A request went out from the Malone Fire District for more personnel at about 3 p.m. to act as relief for the volunteers who first responded to the fire.
