Small plane crashes; no injuries

NORTH ELBA — A small plane crashed about 2 miles south of Lake Placid near Nye Mountain on Thursday night.

No one was injured, Essex County Emergency Services Director Donald Jaquish said.

He was told three men were traveling in the RV-10 light aircraft.

“Dispatch has been talking to the occupants on the phone, and they’re fine,” Jaquish said shortly after 7:30 p.m.

Department of Environmental Conservation forest rangers were sent to help the men to safety, he said.

The cause of the crash was unknown Thursday night, he said; investigation was ongoing.

Adirondack Regional Airport Manager Cory Hurwich said the RV-10 was not scheduled to land at Adirondack Regional Airport.

“I believe they were headed toward Lake Placid,” he said.

Two Adirondack Regional Airport flights were delayed as a result of the crash, though, Hurwich said.

“Once they went missing, ATC (air traffic control) didn’t let aircraft off the ground and they held Cape Air off in the sky for a little bit,” he said.

A Cape Air flight inbound from Boston was circling the airport waiting to land and a private plane headed for Danbury, Conn., was delayed about an hour, he said.

The Danbury flight was given clearance to take off at about 8 p.m., Hurwich said.

The Adirondack Flying Service, which operates out of Lake Placid, could not be reached as of press time.

FYI...
  • Teens trading naked selfies for mugshots

Will teenagers ever learn? You think yours will. Maybe so. But it's likely that was also the hope of the parents of children who were so shamed by nude photos of themselves that went south - how else can they go - that they killed themselves.
