The Children's Place coming to Plattsburgh mall

PLATTSBURGH — The Children’s Place is the newest store slated to open in Champlain Centre.

The company bills itself as the largest children’s specialty apparel retailer in North America, with more than 1,100 locations as of October. The company “sells stylish clothes and accessories from newborn to size 14, at value prices that reflect the company’s motto ‘Big Fashion, Little Prices,’” a press release said.

“The Children’s Place is another best in category tenant,” Champlain Centre General Manager David Napolitan said in the release. “The addition of The Children’s Place, along with our recently announced Crazy 8 store, gives our customers two great options for children’s clothing.”

Construction on The Children’s Place is scheduled to begin in February, with an opening targeted for late spring. The store will be located next to Foot Locker and in front of JCPenney.

Plattsburgh Town Supervisor Bernie Bassett is pleased to see yet another new store coming to the mall.

“It means jobs but also becomes another reason people will come to the Plattsburgh area to shop,” he said.

The Children’s Place designs, contracts to manufacture and sells its merchandise primarily under the proprietary The Children’s Place brand name.

It reported net sales of $1.71 billion in the fiscal year that ended on Jan. 28, 2012. That compared to $1.67 billion in fiscal 2010.

The nearest locations to the North Country are at University Mall in South Burlington and Smart Centre in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec.

Additional information and online shopping is available on the company’s website at www.childrensplace.com.
